First dates on the Norfolk coast
Key facts
| Best for | Daytime dates for people who like being outside |
|---|---|
| Getting there | The Bittern Line runs from Norwich to Cromer and Sheringham. Holkham has buses from King's Lynn, Fakenham and Cromer, and Morston is easiest by car. |
| Budget | Low to medium. Beach walks only cost the parking, and seal trips are a paid boat ticket. |
| If it rains | Cromer Pier is open all year and has food and drink on the pier. Holt, a short drive inland, is good for a coffee. |
A walk by the sea is one of the easiest first dates there is. You sit side by side or walk together, so the silences feel natural. These ideas work in summer and winter, as long as you dress for the wind.
Walk Holkham beach from Lady Anne's Drive
Holkham beach is reached from the Lady Anne's Drive car park, which opens daily from 6am to 5pm. Walk out to the sand and keep going for as long as the conversation does. It is a big open space, so it rarely feels crowded.

A stroll to the end of Cromer Pier
Cromer Pier is a Grade II listed Victorian pier and is open all year from 10am, though closing times change. Walk to the end, watch the sea, then get something warm on the pier or in town. The summer show at the Pavilion Theatre runs from late June to September.

A seal trip from Morston Quay
Several local firms run boat trips of about an hour from Morston Quay to see the seals at Blakeney Point, with times set by the tide. Beans Boat Trips sails all year, with regular trips in winter. From late October to early January the colony can't be reached on foot, so book a boat ahead.
